We are entirely volunteer-run, meaning your money doesn't pay salaries—it pays for postage. It costs us roughly $35 to send 5 packages.

Without your help, these donated books stay on our shelves.


  • $35: Sends 5 book packages.
  • $100: Buys high-demand dictionaries and trade manuals.
  • $500: Funds nearly a week of postage for the entire program.

Big House Books is recognized as a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Tax ID: 47-4076005). Donations to organizations with 501(c)(3) status may be tax deductible. Please consult your tax professional to determine deductibility.

  • Paperbacks (Hardcovers are banned by prisons).
  • Dictionaries & Thesauruses (Highest demand!)
  • Current year calendars and planners
  • Composition notebooks
  • Puzzle books, like crosswords, sudoku, word find
  • African American Authors
  • Trade Skills (Carpentry, Auto, Small Business, Computers).
  • Sci-Fi & Fantasy

Drop-off Info: Bring them to us at 133 Millsaps Avenue during Sunday book packing parties (12 PM - 2PM)
